Hyderabad has hundreds of skin clinics, and choosing the right dermatologist can be confusing. As a UK-trained aesthetic physician who has practiced in Hyderabad since 2014, I want to share an honest perspective on what to look for โ and what to be wary of.
The foundation of any dermatologist's practice is their medical training. Look for:
Red flag: Be cautious of "cosmetologists" or "aesthetic practitioners" who lack a basic medical degree. Dermatology involves diagnosing skin conditions that can be medically significant โ this requires medical training.
If you are considering surgical procedures (hair transplant, mole removal, skin surgery), your doctor's surgical training matters:
Not all international training is equal, but it often indicates exposure to higher standards of practice, evidence-based medicine, and advanced techniques. Look for training from recognized institutions in the UK, Europe, or North America.
This is the single most important question for any surgical or injectable treatment. In many clinics, the "celebrity doctor" is the face of the brand while technicians perform the actual procedures. You have the right to know exactly who will be treating you.
A trustworthy dermatologist will give you a range of expected outcomes, including potential limitations. Be wary of guarantees or "100% success" claims โ medicine does not work that way.
A good doctor presents options, not just the most expensive treatment. If a simple topical regimen can address your concern, the right doctor will tell you โ even though it means less revenue for the clinic.
Stock photos and manufacturer-provided results are not the same as the doctor's own work. Ask to see results specifically from the doctor who will be treating you.
A competent doctor will explain potential complications honestly and describe exactly how they would manage them. Clinics that dismiss the possibility of complications entirely are either uninformed or dishonest.
If a clinic's marketing is dominated by celebrity endorsements and "before/after transformations" but lacks detailed information about techniques, technologies, and the doctor's qualifications โ that is a marketing operation, not a medical practice.
Any clinic can claim to use "advanced technology." Ask for specifics: What is the device name? Is it FDA-approved? What wavelength or parameters are used? A knowledgeable doctor will discuss these details comfortably.
If your first consultation feels like a sales pitch โ with package deals, limited-time discounts, and pressure to commit immediately โ that is a red flag. Good medicine involves informed decision-making, not impulse purchasing.
A dermatologist should examine your skin or hair concern directly โ with good lighting, possibly a dermatoscope or Wood's lamp โ before recommending treatment. If you receive a treatment plan without a thorough examination, the treatment is being chosen for business reasons, not medical ones.
If your first visit results in a list of 5โ10 recommended procedures, be cautious. A focused, step-by-step approach with reassessment at each stage is better medicine than a laundry list of treatments.
Good dermatological care is not the cheapest option. But it is also not always the most expensive. Extremely low prices often reflect:
Extremely high prices may reflect:
What you should expect: Transparent pricing discussed before any procedure. A consultation fee that reflects the doctor's time and expertise. Treatment costs that align with the complexity and technology involved.
I established Vernon Clinic in 2014 with a specific philosophy: the doctor performs the work, the doctor is available for questions, and the treatment plan is based on clinical evidence โ not on what generates the most revenue.
Whether you choose Vernon or another clinic, I hope this guide helps you make an informed decision. Your skin and hair deserve a doctor who respects your concerns, explains your options honestly, and has the training to deliver safe, effective results.
