Stretch Mark Treatment

Stretch marks (striae) occur when the skin is stretched rapidly beyond its elastic capacity — during pregnancy, rapid weight gain/loss, growth spurts, or bodybuilding. The dermis tears, and the resulting scar tissue appears as depressed, discolored lines on the skin.

Stretch mark types and what they mean:

Striae rubrae (red/purple): New stretch marks with active inflammation. These are the most responsive to treatment because the blood supply is intact and collagen remodeling is actively occurring. Early intervention during this phase yields the best results.

Striae albae (white/silver): Mature stretch marks where the inflammation has resolved and the scar tissue has stabilized. These are more challenging to treat but can still be significantly improved.

The Vernon multi-modal approach:

1. MNRF (Micro-Needling Radiofrequency): The primary treatment. Insulated microneedles deliver RF energy into the dermis at the base of the stretch mark, triggering new collagen production that gradually fills in the depressed scar. The insulated tips protect the epidermis, making this safe for all skin types.

2. Fractional CO2 Laser: Creates microscopic columns of controlled injury that trigger wound healing and collagen remodeling. Particularly effective for striae albae where the collagen structure needs significant reconstruction.

3. PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma): Applied immediately after MNRF or microneedling — the growth factors from your own blood penetrate through the micro-channels and accelerate the healing and collagen synthesis process.

4. Chemical Peels: TCA peels stimulate surface-level remodeling and improve the texture and color match of stretch mark skin with surrounding normal skin.

Realistic expectations: Complete elimination of stretch marks is rarely possible. With a full treatment course (6–10 sessions), most patients achieve 50–70% improvement in the appearance of stretch marks — reduced depth, improved color match, and smoother texture.
