Hair Restoration
Specialized hair restoration for women โ addressing female pattern hair loss, traction alopecia, and post-pregnancy hair loss.
Female hair loss presents fundamentally different challenges than male pattern baldness. Women typically experience diffuse thinning rather than defined bald patches, the hairline usually remains intact, and the donor area may be affected by the thinning process โ making traditional transplant approaches potentially unsuitable.
Types of female hair loss treated at Vernon:
1. Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL / Ludwig Scale): Widening of the central part, thinning across the crown while the frontal hairline is preserved. This is the most common type and may be suitable for transplant if the donor area is stable.
2. Traction Alopecia: Hair loss caused by years of tight hairstyles (braids, ponytails, extensions). The hairline and temple areas are most affected. Transplant can restore these areas once the traction source is eliminated.
3. Post-Surgical / Scar-Related Loss: Hair loss around facelift scars, brow lift scars, or other surgical sites.
4. Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA): An autoimmune condition causing progressive recession of the frontal hairline in women. Transplant may be considered once the condition is stable.
The critical screening step: Not all women with hair loss are transplant candidates. Our doctors perform detailed evaluation including:
- Trichoscopy (dermoscopic hair and scalp analysis)
- Blood work (thyroid, iron, ferritin, hormones, vitamin D)
- Donor area density assessment
- Ludwig scale classification
Women with unstable or diffuse donor area thinning may be better served by medical management (minoxidil, PRP/GFC, nutritional optimization) rather than surgical intervention.
