Laser & Pico Technology
Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser for pigmentation, skin discoloration, and toning. The established workhorse for dermatological laser treatments.
The Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser has been the foundation of dermatological laser treatment for over two decades. Operating at 1064nm and 532nm wavelengths with nanosecond pulse durations, it remains a versatile and effective tool for multiple skin conditions.
How Q-Switch works: The laser delivers high-energy pulses in nanoseconds. These ultra-short bursts target melanin and other chromophores through selective photothermolysis โ the laser energy is absorbed preferentially by pigmented targets, heating them rapidly enough to cause fragmentation without significant damage to surrounding tissue.
Conditions treated:
Pigmentation disorders: Lentigines (sun spots), freckles, cafe-au-lait macules, nevus of Ota, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Skin toning: Low-fluence Q-Switch "toning" uses repeated passes at low energy settings to gradually lighten skin and reduce pore appearance. This is particularly popular as a lunch-time treatment.
Tattoo removal: Effective for dark (black, dark blue) tattoo inks at 1064nm. For multi-color tattoos, Pico laser is preferred as it handles resistant colors (green, red, yellow) more effectively.
Carbon peel mode: Combined with carbon lotion for the "Hollywood Peel" โ instant brightening and pore tightening.
At Vernon, Q-Switch complements our Pico laser platform. Our doctors select between Q-Switch and Pico based on the specific condition, skin type, and treatment goals.
